August is dedicated to Rotary Membership and New Club Development. This calls for growing three branches of our Rotary family: Interact for high school students, Rotaract for college students and young professionals, and Rotary for business and community leaders.
The Rotary Club of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff has around 65 members. Each of the past couple of years, we’ve welcomed around 8 new members. Members enjoy perks: weekly white tablecloth breakfasts with a speaker, service events, social events, and the opportunity to network with fellow Rotarians around the world. We’re looking for people who share our passions for service and fellowship - people who want to join leaders, exchange ideas, and take action.
For all branches, Rotary offers training, leadership, social, and travel opportunities for members. Service activities are often performed jointly with other clubs. Social activities throughout the year now also include a new member social and information event. Rotary provides practical experiences in communications, membership, service planning, event planning, and general leadership.
In addition to our local Rotary Club, there are currently Interact Clubs at Lake Forest High School and Lake Forest Academy as well as a service club at Woodlands Academy. Last year, the sponsor of Interact at Lake Forest High School won ‘Teacher of the Year.’
At the college level, the closest Rotaract Club has been associated with Northwestern University in Evanston. We’re starting to see interest from students at both Lake Forest College and the Rosiland Franklin University of Medicine and Science Chicago Medical School. Students are currently exploring starting new Rotaract Clubs at these schools.
