The Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Rotary Club is pleased to announce that Melanie Quall has been awarded a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship for 2010-11. Melanie is a 2005 Lake Forest High School and 2009 Lake Forest College graduate. Rotary President, Len Dedo says, "We are extremely proud of Melanie, the Club's first Ambassadorial Scholar. The $25,000 scholarship will afford Ms. Quall the opportunity to pursue her graduate studies in International Relations - Public Policy and Development." The multilingual Ms Quall is fluent in French, Portuguese and Spanish. In January, Ms Quall will find out if she will study in Brazil, Columbia or Mozambique.

Under the aegis of Rotary International, Ms Quall will spend one year studying aboard. Ambassadorial Scholarships, the Rotary Foundation's oldest and best-known program, was founded in 1947 to further international understanding and goodwill among people around the globe. Since then, over 37,500 men and women from 100 nations have studied abroad under its auspices.

Today's Ambassadorial Scholarships are the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program. Last year, 800 scholarships were awarded totaling $500 million to recipients from 70 countries for study in more than 70 nations worldwide. While abroad, scholars serve as goodwill ambassadors to the host country and visit Rotary Clubs to give presentations about their homeland. Upon their return, Ambassadorial Scholars share the knowledge gained and greater understanding of their host country. This initiative serve to promote worldwide peace and goodwill.
