How did 600 acres of wooded, ravine-carved lakefront become Fort Sheridan?  An illustrated program examines the selection of the Lake county site, architects Holabird & Roche and their designs for the fort, the landscape design of O.C. Simonds, and how buildings and landscape served the early cavalry and infantry as barracks, community, and training ground.

Julia is the author of the Arcadia Images of America title, Highland Park: Settlement to the 1920s. Independent researcher for agencies, authors, and architectural historians. Docent for Fort Sheridan Post Commander’s residence during tours following base closure.  Speaker on Fort Sheridan to community groups, the American Legion Post #145, the Highwood Historical Society, and the 2022 Lake County History Symposium.
